Types of Home Additions

Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs)
Whether your adult children have returned to the nest or you want to provide your elderly parents somewhere in which to age in place, an ADU could be the best option to provide extra living space while allowing each family member to have an adequate amount of privacy. You will want to consider your property’s size, distance from each edge of the property line, and the cost to run utilities to your ADU before an undertaking of this magnitude, but not to worry – we can help.
Types of ADUs
There are several types of ADUs, all under 1,000 square feet and providing a full living space for one to two individuals.
- Interior ADU: Subdivided from existing home
- Attached ADU: Separate but attached to existing home
- Detached ADU: Freestanding (not attached to existing home)
- Junior ADU: Under 500 sq ft, has a separate entrance and may utilize a bathroom within the existing home
