This project, located in University Heights, involved remodeling a bathroom, replacing the fireplace and the fireplace surround as well as all new flooring in the main spaces of the home. The bathroom started with a unique snail-shell shower unit that the client was ready to remove in addition to a less than functional space overall. To reuse materials in the bathroom that were still in good condition and of good quality, our designer was able to help blend the existing and the new finishes. The final fireplace design is a mix of classic styles with the stone surround, wood mantel, and drywall finish above.

highlights

We were challenged during the design process to come up with a solution that best utilized the space and choose finishes that went well with the clients’ existing floor tile that they wanted to preserve. We found a creative way to ensure that they still had plenty of storage, while also maximizing the shower and vanity spaces, by including a customized linen cabinet at the entry to the bathroom. We found a pebble tile for the shower floor that meshes well with both the existing green bathroom floor tile and the new shower wall tile.

results

During construction, it became clear that the overall look of the hearth did not meet expectations. We were able to pivot and find new material to replace the hearth with (at no cost to the client). We landed on a great tile that had a lower profile, and the clients loved the new result.
