The Double Decker project, in the Amberwood neighborhood, was a full deck and railing replacement on a 2-level deck. The clients’ goals were to have a deck that would require little maintenance and last for a long time. Challenges we encountered included reusing the existing deck structure and fitting new finishes in with the existing style of the house. To help the clients save money, we reused the existing structure for the deck because it was still structurally sound.

This presents some difficulties, including the need for extra caution during demolition and needing to pick the proper strength of decking material. When it came time to select finishes, our design experts led the way in ensuring that the materials chosen would be low-maintenance, durable, and beautiful. Because the clients expect to have their young grandkids out enjoying the deck often, we suggested decking with cooling technology for safety.

results

Style and color of the decking and railing were chosen to fit the clients’ style and blend seamlessly with their other finishes. Dual level decks are an exciting challenge because they aren’t very common. We loved tackling this project and giving this deck the refresh it needed to make the outdoor space usable and beautiful for the years ahead.
